Advair Diskus
Advair Diskus (fluticasone propionate, salmeterol) is a medicine used to control asthma and bronchitis-related chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It works by opening up the airways and reducing inflammation. You may not feel the full benefits of using Advair Diskus until some several weeks have passed – that’s how long it may take some people to feel a lot better. So, even if you think this drug could be more efficient, do not use more than prescribed and try to avoid missing or skipping doses, as this will surely affect the success of your treatment. Advair Discus is not going to work for an acute episode of asthma – in that case you require urgent therapy and have to contact your doctor as soon as possible. Heart irregularities are possible if you use this medicine in a way other than prescribed or more often than needed. People with heart problems and high blood pressure should be especially careful with taking this medication. The following medicines have been reported to interact with Advair Diskus, so you will need to mention the fact of using them to your doctor before getting a prescription: ketoconazole, tricyclic antidepressants, beta blockers, long-acting inhalers, ritonavir, water pills, and monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Always take this drug as prescribed and never take more than recommended, as an overdose is possible. An overdose of this medicine can produce the following serious symptoms that need to be reported directly to your local emergency center: muscle cramps, fast heartbeat, tremor, headache, and irregular heartbeat. It is not known for sure whether this medicine can harm an unborn baby, but until it becomes clear make sure you do not start taking this drug before discussing all the risks and benefits with your health care provider. Children younger than 12 are not supposed to be using this medicine. Those older than 12 need to take Advair Discus twice a day with 12 hours between the doses. The following side effects are possible: vomiting, muscle pain, upper respiratory infection, sore throat, bronchitis, gastrointestinal discomfort, difficulty speaking, diarrhea, headaches, cough, and nausea. Report to your doctor any of them that get bothersome and interfere with your everyday life. Never share your medication with other people to whom it was not prescribed, as this may cause a number of serious side effects in them as a result.
